DVF in São Paulo

With NYC fashion week in full swing, I thought this WSJ article is relevant to both fashion, travel and architecture! Triple topic score! The article is a short outline by Diane von Furstenberg about her favorite places to go when she travels in São Paulo, Brazil.

In it she talks up bookstore Livraria da Vila. Turns out this bookstore is an amazing study in creative, dynamic and fun space. I adore these rotating bookshelf doors. Their back lighting makes them appear super alluring against the stoic concrete facade. It reminds me of a modern take on the hidden passages in old murder mysteries (or, my childhood favorite,  Clue: the movie).

The sleek display of books makes them seem less like objects in a store, but more of a building material or artwork on display.

Working in interiors for a few years makes me really appreciate the streamline organization of the space above. This staircase, with its mirror width of negative space in front and horizontal stair graphic in ambient skylights or coffers above epitomises my idea of beautiful modern design.

This is a rad space. Kudos to architect, Isay Weinfeld. Thanks  coolboom for the great pictures by leonardo finotti.
