Museum Folkwang

A few raining weekends ago, I wandered through the Folkwang Museum in Essen. It is a wonderful mondern art museum just a few blocks away from our apartment. It has an amazing permament collection which I spoke about here.

The museum was designed by David Chipperfield Architects based out of London. It was on the short list of the Royal Institute of British Architects for the 2011 Stirling Prize. Although they lost to Zaha's Evelyn Grace Academy, the building is a pleasure to be in and a peice of art itself.

Here are a few pictures I sneaked of the sleak, modern, open / modular and reflective building complex.  It's very Miesian: IIT in spirit.
