Brussels

We had a great time in Brussels this weekend! Although, I'm a bit embarrassed by the title of my last post because - according to our snooty hotel concierge - Mussels are already out of season. Everywhere on the web said September through February, but apparently we were too late. No worries though, we ate plenty of cheese, chocolate and waffles to suffice.

On Friday night we arrived to a nice dusting of snow, which made the trek to the hotel from the train station super memorable. The streets were pretty much deserted and my hubby and I navigated through the old city streets with strained necks and wide eyes. It was beautiful.

Delirium Cafe was way too crowded Friday night to enjoy it, so after one drink we wandered down to Moeder Lambic for a midnight cheese plate and a few Lambics on tap. Although we spent a bit of time at Delirium on Saturday evening, our favorite atmosphere was at Moeder. I hate to think I'm getting too old for Delirium, but the truth is I've never been one for a tight packed room.

Although I want to do another post entirely on The Cantillion Brewery and the tour we took Saturday, I will say that it was also an amazing experience. The beer tasting (and the beer tasting server) were a delight. We indulged ourselves in a few extra tastes and bought a few to take home. Tasting the Cantillion Zwanze 2011 was a highlight of the trip... along with the Zwanze 2008 and 2009 later that night! yum.

Despite a few snotty people (concierge and a totally unhelpful waitstaff at Le Perroquet), we had a great adventure wandering the city. The antique stores and architecture were so eclectic and fun to explore. It was SUPER cold out (note to self: buy more wool socks), but we took it in stride and beers. Here are a few pictures and more to come as the details of the trip weave themselves out in dialog.
